Whether you have been newly diagnosed with Breast Cancer or you are in the throws of it or even if it’s a friend or family member going through this illness one of the worst things you can do is use Google to educate yourself about it. I find the searching online ends up in you rocking in a corner resigning yourself to the only outcome being a coffin or a huge amount of suffering.
I have had girls contact me fretting because they googled symptoms they had and the information on Google just scared the life out of them. My advice step away from the keyboard. There are some really good books written by some really positive people who really know their stuff, which I think can be very informative without scaring the life out of you. Now the Internet is great for information without it my page and blog would not be possible but you all know I’m a real person who has been through this. I created this page simply because I wanted to provide real information and real emotional support which is free of scare tactics or selling a cure !! which is another thing that really annoys me but I won’t go off on a rant and lose focus on the topic at hand .
The books I read/recommend for people touched by Breast Cancer are as follows :
No 1. Talk to the Head Scarf – Emma Hannigan
This book has to be No 1. Emma is a honest person who faces her Breast Cancer with bravery, positivity and humour. If there is one person to look to for inspiration or motivation on your bad days you will not go wrong if you look in Emma’s direction. Of all the books I recommend this should be No 1 on your list.
No 2. The Secret – Rhonda Byrne
This book is not related to cancer however I felt that during some of my bad hopeless days it helped raise my mood and motivate me. Its not hard to read and a few pages at a time will do you but its a really nice book to read.
No 3. The Choice – Bernadette Bohan
This was a book which was bought for me by a friend. I obviously didn’t change my life dramatically after my Breast Cancer. I don’t follow an overly strict diet but I do eat well and exercise lots. You may pick up a few pointers and see how Bernadette beat her cancer.
No 4. The Survivors Mindset – Bernadette Bohan
I haven’t read this but obviously Bernadette knows her stuff and this book deals with hesitancies, fears and prejudices that often are a barrier to making personal change. It equips the reader with common sense information and simple skills.
No 5. Say No to Cancer – Dr. Patrick Holford
This was another book I received as a gift, its interesting, and provides a lot of nutritional information. Its one that is really worth having a look at because I don’t feel cancer patients get enough advice on nutrition.
