It’s something we never talk about but it’s one of the most uncomfortable sickening things that happen after surgery, if you had surgery and escaped it well then you are one lucky gal. What am I taking about …………………………………… CONSTIPATION. Oh girls if only before you went in for surgery they told you this would happen at least you could be prepared to demand laxatives when you felt it setting in.
When I had my surgery, I never even thought about it. 4 days after surgery my stomach looked like I was a good 6 months pregnant. Girls when I say I was in pain I just can’t describe how uncomfortable I felt. By day six I was actually quite ill, I had a headache, was bloated, had stomach ache. I actually then started to feel physically sick. Some of my family were in visiting me and I asked them to leave. I spoke to the nurse and asked for something to help the “situation”. That night was probably one of the worst nights I ever had during my illness. I was a mixture of queasy with cramps, I walked the floors that night. I even asked the nurse why they would let me get so bad.
Still constipated, the next day I was given more of whatever it was they gave me, finally stuff started moving in the right direction, I squirm as I write this but girls expect it and don’t be like me and suffer in silence for days it is not cool.
So now that you know, when you are going for surgery take matters into your own hands and ask for prune juice and brown bread after surgery and that might help but DO NOT let yourself got a few days because you will pay and you will feel ill. I’m still traumatised!!!
