When Rhys was much younger he was Lego crazy, I had always wanted to bring him to Legoland, then I got sick and that plan was pushed to the side. We had a big huge jar that we collected coins in with a colourful label on it which read “Rhys and Mams Legoland Fund”. When I was sick I said to Rhys “I’ll get you to Legoland son”. It was something I really wanted to do with him. As you all know the past few years have flown by and Legoland although always in the back of our minds was never made a priority, until I looked at my precious little prince and realised he was 10 going on 11 and if I didn’t get the finger out he wouldn’t want to go.
I booked us to stay 2 nights in Stuttgart as I really want the kids to experience European Cities and get an appreciate of our neighbours culture. The kids loved Stuttgart, we stayed in a lovely hotel which I had booked back last September (thankfully as the Rolling Stones were in town and the hotel prices sky rocketed) We got a huge family room so it was really comfortable. We explored Stuttgart and visited the Porsche Museem (Rhys is a car fanatic and he was in heaven) , we went to Wilhelma Zoo, it was fab you could spend hours walking around this beautiful place http://www.wilhelma.de/nc/en/home.html . And we also visited this huge park I can’t remember the name of it but there was a Dinosaur Museem in it and a Planetarium – we didn’t visit either as the kids were enjoying themselves in the huge playground. We ate more Ice Cream cones than I care to count and the weather was blissful.
Our stay in Stuttgart flew by and before we knew it, it was time to jump a train to Gunzberg and hit Legoland. Everything in Germany is efficient and spotlessly clean, the train was no different. It was stress free and punctual, and the kids were angels to travel with. We arrived into Gunzberg station and hopped onto the Legoland Shuttle bus and within 10 minutes we were checking in to Legoland. Now I must admit the day I booked this trip (I could have been hormonal ) I was feeling adventurous, I was all planes, trains and automobiles, so when I saw that there was Glamping Barrels based in the Legoland Holiday village I immediately booked into them. We got to our lovely barrel and my sense of adventure dissolved when the reality of no TV and no bathroom hit me. Now the facilities were brilliant but I’m just not made of the kinda stuff that could survive in a barrel. We stayed there the first night, it was comfortable but very squishy, so on the first night I bopped out to reception and upgraded us to the Kings Castle Hotel ………………………. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh now that was my kind of place. It was just like staying in a real castle such a novelty I think I appreciated it more than the kids. We spent our days in Legoland, eating ice cream and going on every ride and amusement that there was. Rhys and Georgia signed up for Legoland Driving School and got themselves Legoland Drivers Licences, Rhys was slightly more into it than Georgia and he signed up again they knew him by the time we were leaving lol. Before I went I had visions of hyper kids, long queues and lots of hidden expense which was not the case, it was chilled, efficient and everything was included in the price. We never queued more than 10 minutes for anything and if you ask me would I recommend a visit I would say YES and if you could try get to the German one it’s just beautiful there, I couldn’t fault a single thing. After Breast Cancer I always say the good times feel better because I appreciate them even more.
