My name is Caroline Conneely and I am 38 years old. I’m a Galway girl who moved to Sligo for family life. I live with my partner Lorcan and we have two children, Kayla who will be 4 in March and Oisin has just turned one.
Last November just one week after turning 38 I felt a lump while in bed at the top of my left breast. Being a mother of a 9 month old thought it was baby related but thought it safer to get it checked out with GP that day. I was referred to the Breast Clinic in Galway where I had a triple assessment.
I returned for my results on the 11th December and was given a diagnosis of triple negative A stage 3 breast cancer. I found the lump early so just confined to breast of a 2cm lump, no lymphnode involvement. I was told my best treatment plan would be chemo first, a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy for this type of breast cancer.
My oncologist has put me on a course of 12 Taxol (weekly), 4 carboplatin (every 3rd week), I change over then to AC chemo 4 sessions every fortnight. . I’m currently due my 8th treatment of taxol tomorrow.
Still a long road ahead, have good and bad days but keeping my body and mind as positive as can be. Thanks for reading my story stay strong
