Dubrovinik …… until the next time

The past few months have been particularly busy for me.   Running in local elections took up a huge amount of time and energy, doing this as well as working and raising my son really took its toll.   My hard work paid off and I was elected, which was an honour and I know my life experiences will make me a better Councillor in serving my community.

So when the batteries were totally FLAT !.  My Tom took matters into his own hands and booked us a little trip away.  He wanted somewhere that neither of us had been before so he chose Dubrovinik in Croatia.

I don’t know about you girls but when it comes to going on holiday – hitting the M50 is where it begins for me its like all the stresses and strains of everyday life just disappear.   Because of flight timings we travelled over with Ryanair and back with Aerlingus – I’m not a huge fan of Ryanair but we selected our seats in advance so it made it more comfortable for us.  Flights Dublin to Croatia are around 3 hours so I had downloaded a few movies from Netflix to keep me occupied.

When we arrive it was easy just to jump a taxi.  Our hotel was 35 mins from the airport.   The scenery was fabulous on the way to the hotel I knew immediately I would like this place.   On arrival the hotel look fabulous.   We were checked in quickly, champagne was literally on tap in reception which made me smile I do like my bubbles, breakfast too was served with an unlimited supply of fizz.  We did try to upgrade our room

to  a sea view but there were none available however, the room we got was nice, it was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean.

We visited the old town of Dubrovinik where I think Game of Thrones has been filmed, it was a 15 minute walk from our hotel and OMG it was spectacular.  Old stoney streets, sunny skies, in an unspoilt location I was in my element.

The weather was lovely it was so warm and that warmth continued late into the night.  One day I was wearing my bikini until around 10pm

We visited Lapad which is another area in Dubrovinik again about 10 minute drive from our hotel – it had a strip of bars and restaurants with one really cool bar located in a cave.  We enjoyed sitting outside admiring the Adriatic sea as we sipped cocktails without a care in the world.

We wanted to discover more because every where was beautiful so we decided to take a day trip to Montenegro.   AH GALS !!!! this was heaven we visited a place called Perest then onto Kotor.  We took a boat trip from Perest to Kotor.  It was that good I have been literally googling flights and accommodation to get back before the year is out.  Its quite a religious area with lots of lovely churches, one church we visited is on its own little island its so pretty.

Food was good, I don’t think we ate as much as we usually do because of the heat.  I had been sick before going so alcohol consumption was somewhat limited but I have to say it was one of the most unspoilt, ROMANTIC, stressfree places I have ever visited in my life.

This is the hotel we stayed – I couldn’t fault it – if you are booking do book a seaview you wont regret it.
